KDE is a contemporary network transparent desktop environment for Unix workstations. KDE seeks to fill the need for an easy-to-use desktop for Unix and Linux, similar to the desktop environments found under the Mac OS or Windows. It includes a window manager, file manager, panel, control center, and many other components typical of a contemporary desktop environment. Built on open industry standards such as the object request broker, COBRA 2.0, KDE's KOM/OpenParts compound document technology enables developers to create applications quickly. Previous updates included bug fixes, additional language translations, and improved documentation. This version features various bug fixes, performance enhancements, and feature additions.
